HistorySuperior Fabricated Products (SFP) is a division of Superior Air Handling, a Union sheet metal contractor with over 62 years of industry experience. Superior is affiliated with SMWIA Local 312, and fabricates under the yellow union label. With the goal to utilize all of its resources, the SFP division was developed in 2003, to provide fabricated sheet metal products to other sheet metal and full mechanical companies. Superior was founded in 1948 as a family business, performing manufacturing and installation of HVAC duct systems. The Company’s first location was in Ogden, Utah serving commercial and industrial markets throughout the western US during a massive post-WWII expansion. Within its first two decades of operation, Superior’s client list and reputation grew. During the 1960’s and 1970’s, Superior extended its geographic reach through its association with Sam P. Wallace and Kiewit Industrial. Superior opened offices and fabrication facilities in Seattle and Denver to position the Company to participate in the large DOE nuclear expansion, in addition to industrial and commercial projects, taking place in those regions. It participated in the Washington Public Power Supply System (WPPSS) and Trojan Nuclear Power Plant projects of that period. While many competitors were manufacturing high volume, low margin duct systems geared to residential and lower-end commercial markets, Superior’s founders became increasingly unique in their focus on highly technical facilities, and quickly developed a reputation for an ability to manufacture and install duct systems to very close tolerances and high specification requirements. During the 1980’s Superior’s unique capabilities were met by increasing demand due to the construction of large hospitals, commercial high rise buildings, resort hotels and military projects across the US. The Company opened offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco. In 1989, Superior was acquired by JWP, Inc., currently known as EMCOR Group, Inc. During the 1990’s, US economic growth was fueled largely by growth in the semiconductor and information technology sectors, and Superior participated significantly in this growth due to the high specifications required by those facilities. Additionally, the nation experienced unprecedented construction and renovation of airports and DOD facilities, as well as new entertainment venues and stadiums. Superior, which was recognized for its abilities with highly technical facilities, was able to capitalize on these opportunities. In 1997, John Powell led a management buyout of Superior, and over time the ownership has increased to nearly 50 employees, directors and advisors. In 2002, following substantial renovations to its new 178,000 square foot building, Superior moved into its current location and manufacturing facilities in Clearfield, Utah. With a 120,000 sq. ft. World Class Manufacturing facility and highly skilled personnel, Superior continues to be a leader in Sheetmetal HVAC Fabrication & Installation. SFP COMPANY PROFILE
